National Unity Day Celebration – Special Assembly

Students and staff at Daly College celebrated the 144th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on the 31st of October 2019.
The morning assembly witnessed a series of events planned to celebrate ‘National Unity Day’ to commemorate the birth anniversary of India’s Iron Man.
The assembly began with a brief biographical snapshot delivered by Head Girl Gaurika Anand underscoring the multitude of feats accomplished by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel – India’s first deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, responsible for the integration of 562 princely states into one nation.
This was followed by a presentation on India’s Unity in Diversity delivered by Rudra Saigal and Sara Qureshi. The presentation talked about the richness and diversity of India’s cultures, religions, languages, geography, cuisines, and ways in which we as Indians embrace our country’s diversity. It also reminded the audience of the significance of diversity, and the fact that despite these differences, and rampant polarization and extremism in our current political scenario, we can remain united despite our vast diversity.

Thereafter, Head Boy Khush Bhachawat administered the ‘Unity Pledge’ with the Dalian students and faculty members, who vowed to preserve and strengthen the country’s unity, integrity and security.

Lastly, the Principal – Mr. Neeraj Kumar Bedhotiya, addressed the Dalian community, sharing his views on the relevance of embracing diversity, especially in this era of ‘us versus them’ rhetoric. He reminded the students of the values that this nation was built on and the values shared by the legendary Sardar Patel, and how these values must be imbibed by the future generation. With this the celebrations ended, but not the spirit that was ignited within every Dalian to stand unified as true ambassadors of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’.
